We are turning green

We are going to have our grand opening day for Skyecrafts Solar store on June 28, 2008! Yesterday we unpacked a large refrigerator that is quite efficient. For the same amount of energy it takes to operate our tiny brown office fridge, you can operate FOUR of these giant ones. Imagine that?

Of course all of this green energy stuff I have been doing and reading about has begun to affect us at home. We stopped buying bottled water and have now put a filter on our tap . No more tons of plastic in our kitchen and it’s better for the environment.  It feels better as well.

We also started walking more. When I take my son to therapy, I usually drove with my other 2 children to Walgreens. Well, now we walk. Yes, Florida, 95′ in the shade in the summer. But it was enjoyable, took up the whole waiting time as well.

Get this………ready? We dumped the television. Yup! Well, it’s sitting in our garage waiting to be properly dumped.  It was an old set from 2003 or somewhat. IT had a strange line developing on top of it and getting larger and larger blocking most of the upper part of the screen. We decided that to much sensory stimulation has been terrible for our son who has a lot of sensory issues. So, for the past few months, we only had the tv in our bedroom to lessen the dependence on it. Then we decided enough was enough…..we unplugged our one and only set, called up the cable company and cancelled the service. surprise! we don’t miss it. I really don’t miss watching commerical after commercial. In the end, that is what helped make our decision.

Two other changes on the horizon, more daylighting in our own home and if the dryer breaks down, we will not replace it. We will set up a rack in the yard. Living in Holland with hubby for that short time I found hanging clothes up on the line to be relaxing. An activity to do with minmal brain work but the brain is occupied, so it can’t wander too much.
